NAME: Obikawa Kiyoshi
AGE: 28* (*appearance wise, his actual age is well above this)
CANON: After God
CANON POINT: Chapter 57
CRAU: N/A
OTHER: Just a general warning for: cannibalism, drugs, addiction, and weird snake pregnancy. And I'm so sorry for whoever is going to read the history section, if you're completely canonblind I swear everything is true there's just So Much Happening in this series.
SUITABILITY: Obikawa is familiar with sex as a means of procreation due to his knowledge as a God, but admittedly has little experience with the act itself. He has memories of those that he's consumed, as well, despite not being able to remember the sensations of said event. But overall Obikawa isn't new to sexual encounters nor is he completely foreign to the idea of having relationships with others, he just needs to explore what he hasn't been able to as a God. He's also excitedly mentioned that he's been wanting to talk about dicks but could never in a normal conversation, so now he'll have the chance to dive right in.
HISTORY:
Before Obikawa Kiyoshi, a man from Wakayama that came to Tokyo to evade the yakuza, there was Kaka Haha Mi Mui Orokapi Hebigami -- or simply just Orokapi. A god that began to wreak havoc across the country of Japan with no exact goal in mind aside from the desire to exist. Born from contaminated seawater made by humans the Gods, also known as IPOs, considered the human species as invasive and began settling on Japan by destroying their soils and essentially building cults around their image.
Orokapi originally had no desire of taking a human body to occupy, but found himself in a strange predicament once the Anti-God Science Institute stole a piece of his tail. It was then that he picked a single human out of three completely based on their name and became Obikawa Kiyoshi; disguising himself and befriending Tokinaga Sachiyuki in order to retrieve his cells from the Institute. And as he spent months developing a close friendship with Tokinaga, he was quick to betray him after successfully kidnapping Waka Kamikura and Tatsuno Yoriko. The latter of the half having impregnated herself with his cells from his tail. After taking the snakes from her stomach he is confronted by her fiancée Minami Akio, engaging in battle and devouring him.
Now after taking the identity of Minami he kidnaps Yoriko a second time, taking her to a remote home hidden from the naked eye. However after a few days of their "honeymoon" (in his words), and confronting the God Ahu'az, he is informed that the house they were occupying would explode. Escaping they reach the graveyard that Yoriko buried her late daughter, to which Obikawa destroys the grave to retrieve her ashes and remaining bone fragments to swallow them. Stating that by doing so he now has the two most important people in Yoriko's life, and she would be unable to allow the Institute to kill him.
Returning to his apartment he meets Tokinaga, who is on a mission by the Institute to convince Obikawa to become an ally with humans. After an emotional confrontation, where Obikawa does not apologize for his betrayal but in a strange way admits that Tokinaga is a friend, he agrees to work with the Anti-God Institute. Enduring hands-on experiments and receiving a cat (that is actually a robot and liquid bomb) for his cooperation.
After Waka Kamikura is brainwashed from eating tainted gummies and travels to a territory owned by a God, he and Tokinaga follow in order to rescue her. We learn that this God in particular, named Vollof, is a friend of Obikawa that had cut off ties with due to their addiction for a painkiller that was provided by the dead God, Alula. After abandoning Tokinaga he later reunites with Vollof and they rekindle their friendship only for Obikawa to devour them.
ABILITIES:
There's so much going on with him. God.
TRANSFORMATION: Obikawa is originally the snake IPO named Orokapi and has the ability to transform himself into a giant snake. In canon it's revealed that his body is large enough to fit into a Japanese subway station, but may be even larger since he can be seen sunbathing on top of apartment complexes. Just how big he can get is all up to the mods decision, of course! He can also transform himself into Minami Akio after having consumed him.
CONSUMPTION: As well as his original snake body, Obikawa can take any human form after he's devoured them. This allows him to also see into their memories with a few restrictions, not being able to experience what was heard, felt, or even what the person had tasted. It should also be noted that when intoxicated or in while sleeping the original personality of the people he has consumed may surface. (Example: Tokinaga makes a comment on how the original Obikawa Kiyoshi had a Kansai dialect, and that he once asked him for cigarettes despite claiming to note smoke.) These situations, however, are real.
REGENERATION: IPOs are capable of healing themselves after taking extensive damage, however the duration period depending on the wound can take from mere seconds to several days. This timeframe can be reduced however if Obikawa eats another IPO. It should also be noted that IPOs cannot be killed by humans, but only by other IPOs.
GOD'S EYES: As an IPO Obikawa has the ability to manipulate and control humans, putting them in a state of bliss and euphoria, through his eyes. He doesn't commonly use them but can on-demand, it just depends on the situation that he's in. This control can last up to eight hours, even when the individual is separated from Obikawa's gaze.
CREATION: IPOs have the ability to create a space around them, specifically where their bodies have corrupted a certain areas. This can range from anything between a showerhead to an apartment complex filled with different rooms. It should be noted, however, that Obikawa lacks creativity and sticks to objects that he's seen before. As an offensive skill he has the ability to create rows of sharp fangs along the ground and walls to pierce his enemies or trap them, as if they were in his own mouth.
POISONS: Obikawa is capable of creating almost any poison as well as an antidote. It's also been proven in canon that he can create drugs similar to a "painkiller" the God Alula had distributed to other IPOs.
ADVANCED STRENGTH: He hits like a truck. He can quite literally punch someone's head clean off their shoulders.
DETECTION: If Obikawa is familiar with someone's scent he can find them quite easily. For example if they are hiding somewhere in a large home he can plant his hands against the floor where his fingernails will turn into snake eyes and lead him in the direction of where that person is.
VICES:
SELFISHNESS: The "Obikawa Kiyoshi" we are introduced to is a man who doesn't care much for the people around him. He seems to be oblivious of what inconvenience he makes while being portrayed as a selfish playboy. He never contributes to the conversation if he feels as if it's too boring and deliberately throws a tantrum whenever Tokinaga calls him out on his childish behavior. Raising his voice, yelling and making odd sounds when he's angry, the best and initial word anyone would describe him with is "eccentric"; odd and a bit annoying. Stepping over boundaries and making everyone uncomfortable because, in his own words, he wants to. Before Obikawa he was a God that many worshipped in the hopes of surviving in a country struck by their power, and naturally he bathed in that adoration; taking everything he wanted because he could, because he had the power and the authority to control humans since the moment the Gods made their presence known.
Contributed to this is Obikawa's sense of self-worth being above that of all human beings. Initially he holds a negative opinion on humans themselves, referring to them as rats and describing the experiments that they're able to conduct on their own bodies (Yoriko) as grotesque. It disgusts him and he, in his own words, admits that his malice towards humans can even be comparable to their own hatred in feeling humiliated.
MANIPULATIVE: Despite his childish behavior Obikawa can't be described as simple-minded after executing detailed plans during his betrayal. He blends in with humans, adapts by getting a job and living as a civilian; playing games, drinking alcohol, complaining when it gets to cold or when the internet is down. While some of these antics are undeniably part of him, he still successfully gains the trust of Tokinaga Sachiyuki with the goal of getting revenge on the Anti-God Institute. And who is going to assume that the man hitting on pregnant women and living the bachelor life is a God?
We see the mask fall for the first time with Yoriko Tatsuno, but since his introduction it is evident that there's something lurking behind all of Obikawa's decisions -- something that most can't recognize due to his immature and rash behavior. Cunning and malicious, he doesn't care how he hurts the same individuals who see him as an irresponsible, yet loyal friend; killing Tokinaga's allies and not so much as apologizing after everything has been exposed. He even goes as far as to take the remains of Yoriko's late child and consume them, stating that by doing so she wouldn't allow the Institute to kill him now that he has the two most important people in her life in his stomach.
VIRTUES:
HUMANITY: Obikawa can be easily described as an individual disconnected from any meaningful emotions, but in truth it is the biggest conflict he faces once his identity is revealed. Because for the past three years he's disguised himself as not just a human, but as a friend to Tokinaga; growing close enough that he feels almost obligated to comfort him despite being aware of how much pain he has caused. Obikawa lacks sympathy for the people that he's killed, not even bothering to apologize to Tokinaga despite him begging, but still agrees to help not only for his safety but because he realizes something that he's been missing: love.
During Obikawa's last moments with Vollof, they comment on how he's become more human. Just taking the time to wash them with his own two hands, creating a showerhead and towel, felt human, Vollof felt loved by Obikawa. And Obikawa, in an effort to help his friend, realizes that value of just one individual can have in a person's life. Revealing that he, too, understands that in just the past few months he's been able to sympathize with humans, as well as become more of one himself. And perhaps that was something so obvious that he and the other Gods completely overlooked. Because despite the anger and frustration he held in regards to Vollof and their constant battle of addiction, he had always done his best to take care of the friendship they had. Even if it meant making the same drug he detested just to help Vollof with their withdrawals, despite being well aware that he was just contributing to their addiction and making it worse but having no idea on how to fix their situation.
Despite all the pain he has inflicted on others and showing no signs of being apologetic, Obikawa himself has shown signs of empathy towards humanity. The same species he believed to be sadistic and cruel, invading everything they touch and contaminating the world built for them, he does recognize their unwavering ability to love and care for each other even as the world seems to be falling apart.
LOYALTY: While this may seem contradictory to all awful behavior Obikawa has displayed to others, he's fortunately received some character development!
Tokinaga Sachiyuki is a pivotal character to Obikawa's because we see their friendship be torn apart by his actions; the lives he's taken, the lies he's told, just being a few. But we also see the aftermath of their relationship and how they come together, even if there are secrets Tokinaga keeps from Obikawa that he is completely aware of. Because despite his selfish attitude and impulsive behavior, it doesn't distract him from abnormalities' such as a difference the other man's voice or expression. So when he exposes Tokinaga for knowing a God that the Institute is unaware of he is neither angered or hurt by this revelation. Instead he only assures him that whoever he is really doesn't matter, at the end of the day they're friends -- he wants to cherish their time together, be as close as they can be, even going as far as to suggest the Tokinaga just live in the same room as him in the Institute if it means he may recover.
Obikawa is a liar, but he won't abandon the people he adores. Even during the -- very brief -- altercation with Vollof he can't bring himself to hate them, even if they had no problem with leaving him to nearly die at the hands of another God. Overall? He's a mess. He is impulsive and childish, while at the same time still learning how to truly empathize with the people around him. Realizing that the feeling or just the threat of losing someone he's grown to care for upsets him, and wanting to so desperately hold even just a tiny piece of who he loves inside of him forever.
SUIT REQUESTS:
HEARTS: Many of the characteristics describing the Heart suit align with Obikawa's vices of being dramatic, possessive, and desiring companionship. As most of his existence was in the body of a giant snake he has yet to have any romantic relationships with another individual -- the only exception being when he possesses Minami's body and he begins to experience an infatuation towards Yoriko. Overall it would be interesting to explore emotions he hasn't experienced and the conflict that comes with a God creeping closer to becoming a human. And maybe he'll realize that he doesn't have to eat everyone he likes!
CLUBS: Many more vices, but with the clubs it will potentially challenge his self-control and mind much like he does with his eyes. Being in a position where the roles are reversed will put him in an uncomfortable position and, considering his lying streak, will force him to be more honest. Especially with the complicated emotions he harbors he will likely have to confess his fear of losing himself to the human's he consumed. It would also be interesting to roleplay out any of the intrusive thoughts he may have that conflict with his existence as a God; forced to admit that he may have more in common with humans than he once believed.
RANK REQUESTS: Mod's choice! Obikawa has lived the life of a God as well as a normal human civilian, so he won't complain at all if he was dealt a low rank.
